How Can We Help?

Picture
Removal

Whether it poses a safety hazard, is showing major signs of decline, or is just in the wrong spot, sometimes a tree needs to come down. Goodfellers offers full removal services down to the ground level. We can remove the entire above ground portion of the tree and do a stellar cleanup afterwards. We do NOT grind stumps, but can provide referrals to a qualified contractor.

Pruning

Well-informed and health-focused pruning is the main way to keep your tree or shrub standing strong and looking its best. We can consult with you and your tree(s) to determine the best pruning strategy for your needs and those of your tree. We always work with the following in mind:
  • Plant Health — Does the canopy need to be thinned for light and air penetration? Are there any dead, damaged, or crossing branches that need to be removed? Any other strategies that should be employed to optimize health? (i.e. mulching, adjusting watering schedule)
  • Structural Integrity — Is the overall structure and weight distribution of your tree optimal? Are there any limbs that need to be reinforced or removed for safety? Does the tree have any decay that might put it at risk of failure?
  • Beauty — How can we help the tree to find it’s ideal form and look its best in the landscape?

Plant Health Consultation

Is your tree looking sick or stressed out? Curious about watering schedule or best practices for tree care? Have Ethan come inspect your tree and discuss strategies for bringing it back to good health. Goodfellers takes a non-toxic approach to tree care, rarely if ever recommending pesticides or other chemical treatments. Our philosophy is that a tree’s best defense is to be an appropriate species in a suitable site, and given the best growing conditions as is practical.

Cabling

Sometimes a prized tree can be saved, and the safety of its surroundings ensured, by installing cabling. This can reinforce a long, arching limb or a co-dominant leader (split top) which otherwise represents a major safety issue. Goodfellers uses the Tree Guard Non-Invasive Cabling system – a more modern, gentle and effective approach to cabling. A system of slings and heavy nylon rope is used, as opposed to the older, more invasive system of steel cable and bolting.

Chipping

We have a large 10” chipper at our disposal, and can turn large piles of woody debris into fine chips. This material makes great mulch for trees and shrubs, or material for pathways. We are always happy to leave chips on site for you at no extra charge!

Milling

When a tree has to come down, it always feels good to make use of the wood and not let it go to waste. Sometimes there are hidden treasures within tree trunks. Ethan has been working with an Alaskan chainsaw mill and milling custom slabs and lumber. For larger pieces, we can make arrangements with other local sawyers to process the wood. If it was a special tree, it’s possible that we can cut furniture-grade lumber from it for you to treasure forever.

Tree Selection and Planting

If you want to replace a removed tree, and need help deciding what to put in, let us help you. Ethan draws from a lifetime of plant study, and a decade of landscape design and construction here in Oregon. He can help you pick a species, source the tree, and install it correctly with proper soil preparation, fertilization, and staking.
